I try to be empirical in my day-to-day life. Sometimes this attitude grates on people. They see my unwavering skepticism of assumptions and hypotheses as pretentiousness, stubbornness, or “blind devotion to science”. Well, it is a devotion to science, but it’s also important for me to repeat the adage to myself. I’m making it a mental habit to think “Where’s the Evidence?”. Making a habit of questioning assumptions comes in handy when my brain also has negative mental habits of assuming the worst about myself.
